To make the perfect Sazerac combine one part technique, one part interpretation, and a dash of folklore. THE NEW ORLEANS SAZERAC explores the expansive history and modern applications of the classic cocktail through interviews with historians, authors, experts, and bartenders. The film incorporates a period narrative, custom animations, and authentic music to fully express the story dating back to the early 1800's.

James Martin, USA

Not only does James Martin love making films, but he also deeply appreciates the artistry of a well-made cocktail. Through his blog, he has experimented with his own cocktail recipes, interviewed some of the best bartenders out there, and researched the origins of the most beloved beverages. Through this process Martin has inevitably come across the Sazerac, whose own evolution and story is full of folklore and magic. It also originates from one of his favorite cities – New Orleans.

There are so many questions surrounding the Sazerac - Was it America’s first cocktail? Why has it changed so much over time? How do contemporary interpretations measure up? So when it was time for Martin to embark on his first film to direct, exploring the lifeline of the Sazerac felt like the natural choice. It’s a story he plans to explore through custom illustrations, music, and even the hint of a narrative storyline. Martin is excited to swing open this new door as a first-time director, and it couldn’t be for a more fascinating subject.
